whip up these tasty homestyle meatball melt subs. They are easy peasy simple to make. Did I mention Yummmmmmy too :)
Recipe type: Subs
Serves: 2-4
  • 3 hot Italian sausages
  • ¼ lb ground pork
  • 3 tablespoons chopped flat leaf parsley
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • ½ orange bell pepper, sliced
  • ⅓ green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 medium-sized onion, sliced
  • a few button mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 small container of tomato sauce of your choice
  • 4 roasted onion buns
  • pizza mozzarella, sliced
  1. Preheat oven to 425F. I used a convection oven, you may have to play with your temperature settings to get the desired results.
  2. Open sausage casings and remove meat.
  3. Add ground pork to sausage meat, add chopped parsley and the beaten egg.
  4. Mix by hand until well combined.
  5. Roll out meatballs to desired size, place on baking sheet and bake at 425F for 18-20 minutes or until meatballs are nicely browned.
  6. Thinly slice orange bell pepper, green bell pepper, onion and button mushrooms.
  7. Melt butter in a pan and sautee vegetables until soft and everything caramelizes a bit. Set aside.
  8. Heat tomato sauce and add cooked meatballs to sauce, mix to coat well.
  9. Slice onion buns lengthwise and toast until golden brown.
  10. Top buns with a layer of meatballs and sauce, bell pepper mixture, top with more sauce and slices of mozzarella.
  11. Return to oven to broil until the cheese melts and becomes gooey.
  12. Plate and serve.
